AI is not the problem: Teachers must adapt or fall behind

21/06/2025

Throughout history, education has evolved alongside technology: from the printing press and calculators to computers and the internet. But now, while students are already using AI in their daily lives, what are teachers doing?

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) transforms the way students learn.

Prohibiting AI in the classroom is not the solution. The real question is: Are teachers prepared to adapt and take advantage of it?

If education doesn't change, students will continue to use AI… they will just do it in secret.

The problem is not AI, it's the educational system.

The reality is clear:

  • Students are already using AI to summarize texts, generate ideas, and even program.
  • Artificial intelligence tools are not going to disappear; they will only become more advanced.
  • Some teachers have learned to adapt, but many still see it as a threat.

The problem is not the technology, but that we continue to teach as if it didn't exist.

While students explore the practical use of AI, many educational institutions continue to focus on traditional methods, ignoring that the future of teaching must integrate these tools into learning.

How can teachers use AI to their advantage?

Instead of blocking it, teachers can turn it into an ally to enhance teaching.

Practical strategies for integrating AI into education:

  • Use it as a pedagogical assistant: Generate exercises, explanations, and content tailored to each student.
  • Encourage critical thinking: Teach students to validate the information generated by AI and differentiate reliable content.
  • Automate repetitive tasks: AI can correct essays, analyze learning trends, and customize educational content.
  • Prepare students for the future: It's not about blocking AI, but about teaching them how to use it ethically and judiciously.

Education is not about memorization, but about learning to think beyond artificial intelligence.

Real example:

In some universities, teachers are using ChatGPT and other generative AIs to help students analyze texts, improve their writing, and develop ideas for research projects.

What's at stake:

  • Teachers who do not use AI will become obsolete in a world where technology advances faster than the school curriculum.
  • Students who learn with AI will be more competitive in the job market.
  • Schools that block AI will lose relevance and be replaced by more innovative education systems.

AI will not replace teachers, but teachers who use AI will replace those who do not.

Real example:

In Finland and Singapore, education is integrating AI to personalize learning and improve teaching efficiency, allowing teachers to focus more on creativity and critical thinking instead of repetitive tasks.

Conclusion: Education must evolve, not prohibit

  • AI is not the enemy of education, but a tool that, when used well, can enhance learning.
  • Teachers who adapt will be able to personalize teaching, optimize their time, and make classes more dynamic.
  • Education must focus on teaching students to use AI responsibly and critically.

So the big question is:

  • How should teachers use AI in their classes?
  • What skills do students need to leverage it without depending on it?
  • Are we going to block AI or learn to integrate it intelligently?
