One day I heard my boss say: just put it in ChatGPT

20/06/2025

The silent wave of AI layoffs has already begun.

The Artificial Intelligence is not just coming. It has arrived.

And with it, a new reality for thousands of workers who are being displaced without warning, without explanations… and, many times, without alternatives.

It’s no longer about automating simple tasks.

Now we are talking about replacing creative people, with talent, experience, and their own voice.

What seemed like a support tool is becoming — in some sectors — direct replacement.

AI no longer assists. It substitutes.

The article from The Guardian features five real stories of five individuals whose work lives were transformed — or truncated — by AI:

  • Mateusz Demski, a cultural journalist in Poland, was laid off and replaced by an AI avatar.
  • His station even aired a fake interview with a deceased poet, generating controversy for using her image without consent.
  • Lina Meilina, an illustrator in Indonesia, saw her commissions disappear when clients began using AI to clone her style.
  • Annabel Beales, a British copywriter, lost her job after the arrival of ChatGPT … despite being assured that her position was safe.
  • Richie Tavake, a voice actor in the U.S., discovered that his voice had been replicated by an AI without his authorization.
  • Jadun Sykes, a graphic designer in the UK, was laid off when his agency decided that an AI could do his job faster.

Five voices. Five lives. A repeating pattern.

From promise to reality: disruption has already begun

What was a prediction a year ago is now a trend.

AI is already writing texts, designing images, giving voice to characters, and replacing human functions… uninterrupted.

And the most concerning part:

Many times it happens without dialogue, without transition, without prior training.

Just a “we no longer need you”.

This is not just technology. It is an ethical crisis.

These stories reveal urgent questions:

  • Where are the limits of replacement?
  • What rights do workers have regarding the use of their voice, image, or style by an AI?
  • Who regulates that these decisions are not driven solely by cost?

Because it’s not just a matter of efficiency.

It is a question of human dignity, of labor protection, and of social justice.

The future does not stop… but it must have rules

AI is here to stay.

But that doesn’t mean we should accept its integration without ethics, without discussion, and without accountability.

Companies have a unique opportunity:

To use AI to enhance their teams, not to discard them.

And governments, an urgency:

Create legal frameworks that protect workers and regulate the commercial use of human creativity.

Conclusion

The question is no longer whether AI will replace jobs.

It is how it will do it… and at what human cost.

Because if we do not address this wave with vision, we might wake up in a world where technology advanced… but we regressed in rights.

What do you think? Where should the limit be?

Leave me your thoughts in the comments.
